KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has stated that regular water supply will probably resume on Monday (today) ,affected badly after the massive power breakdown in the city on Sunday, two hours before Sehri.

KWSB stated that several areas of Karachi have received no or less water on Sunday. The statement added that, the normal water supply is expected to resume on Monday morning.

However, the authorities urged the people to conserve water as the supply to the city reduced to over 150 million gallons on Sunday against its daily normal supply of over 500m gallons of water.

According to the statement, following the power breakdown at around 2.40am on Sunday, the KWSB network collapsed as its pumping stations at Dhabeji, Gharo, Hub and Northeast Karachi and various filter plants stopped functioning.

The power supply was partially restored to different pumping stations which started functioning between 4.45am and 5.30am. However, the Gharo pumping station was affected again as electricity supply to it was disrupted at around 8am for a couple of hours.

KWSB which is responsible for production, transmission and distribution of potable water to over 28 million people of Karachi, has made a comprehensive plan for sustained supply of water to all areas of the city during Ramazan, as stated.

According to reports, the power breakdown caused by tripping in 500KV Jamshoro line affected several neighbourhoods of the city, including PECHS Block 2, Shah Faisal Colony, Surjani Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal 13-D, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Saudabad, Sir Syed Town, North Karachi, Superhighway, Hyderi, Liaquatabad, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Malir Halt, Rafah-e-Aam, Airport, Numaish, Keamari, Jackson, Kharadar, Hawksbay, Shadman Town, and Federal-B Area.
