Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has refused to release ‘Dangal’ in Pakistan after Pakistani censor board demanded omitting scenes displaying Indian flag and playing India’s national anthem.

According to Times of India, Aamir Khan, who is also Dangal's co-producer and plays the lead role, decided against releasing the film in Pakistan after the Pakistani Central Board of Film Censors demanded last week that two scenes involving the Indian flag and the national anthem to be cut.

Aamir Khan and the film’s team were okay with releasing ‘Dangal’ in Pakistan. But the demands from the Pakistan censor board changed their minds.

Aamir then decided that the film would not be released in Pakistan. ‘Dangal’ emerged as one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbuster with over INR 385 crore at the Indian box office.

The movie ‘Dangal’ narrates the real life journey of a Haryana villager Mahavir Phogat and his wrestler daughters Geeta and Babita.

Last year, theatre owners and exhibitors in Pakistan temporarily blocked screening Indian films after Pakistani artistes and technicians were banned by the Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) to perform in India. The controversial move was taken in the wake of political tension between India and Pakistan, post the Uri (Jammu and Kashmir) attacks in September.

Although Aamir Khan hasn’t personally commented on the issue but as per the information currently available, ‘Dangal’ is not going to be released in Pakistan.

However, earlier this year, Pakistan lifted the ban on Indian films and began screening them in the country.
