imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways' latest initiative to launch mobile application to reserve seats of their choice without visiting their local reservation offices will facilitate the passengers a lot, an official said on Thursday.

"In addition to being able for reservation of seats on 48 trains, passengers can get information regarding arrival, delays, expected travel time, stoppages and payment solutions through the newly launched app," he told APP.

The initiative has been taken after the success of Pakistan Railways e-ticketing which was launched in October last year, he added.

He said the e-ticketing drive had got immense appreciation from the passengers and now they could avail this facility on 48 trains currently operating on main railway tracks of the Pakistan Railways.

To a question, he said the restructuring of Directorate of Information Technology was not an easy task, as the department was passing through its worst period and private firms and young professionals were reluctant to work with Pakistan Railways.

Pakistan Railways had earned Rs 60 million through e- ticketing in few months and it was also widely appreciated, he added

He said that Pakistan Railways has also decided to upgrade German coaches that have near to complete their life-limit.

In this regard, he said the state-owned entity has planned to upgrade 300 economy-class coaches to AC-standard coaches of old German stock.

Apart from these 300 coaches, he said that another 120 economy class coaches will be upgraded in the next four months and another 39 AC-sleeper coaches will be upgraded locally.
