imageAustralian skipper Steve Smith was relieved after his side just managed to cling on to the Gabba Test, after a mammoth batting display from Pakistan on the fifth day of the first Test match.

But the victory for Aussies didnt come without witnessing setbacks that include drop chances particularly by Steven Smith himself, as he dropped Azhar Ali on the fourth Day

"I lost all my finger nails I think. It was a bit too close for my liking. Some game of cricket wasn't it? said the Aussies skipper via Channel Nine.

"A lot of credit has got to go to the way they (Pakistan) played. I thought our bowlers stuck at it all day, we bowled a lot of overs, our quicks just kept coming back, he added.

Smith further went on to applause his main strike bowler Mitchell Starc for the impressive spells of bowling, and particularly picking up Pakistans mainstay Asad Shafiq in his penultimate over.

"That wicket of Asad showed the class of Starcy to come in with a ball... quite soft [and] to get it up like that, to get that wicket and crack it for us shows his real class."

However, Pakistans gutsy show was enough to give hiccups to even the most ardent Australian fans, as Pakistan closed in on what could have been a remarkable victory, but Smith was hopeful that the team would pass the poll.

"You've always got to have hope," Smith said.
