The Afghani kid who became an internet sensation after his home-made plastic Messi shirt went viral on social media. Now, almost a year later, the six year old Murtaza Ahmadi got his dream come true after he met his hero football star Lionel Messi on Tuesday.

Ahmadi shared a warm embrace with arguably the greatest footballer of his generation, in a heartwarming encounter captured on video that was tweeted by the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.

The image the world wanted to see. The six year old boy who dreamed of meeting his hero, #Messi, finally comes true, reads the tweet.

Ahmadi became an instant hit on the internet, when a photo of him wearing the plastic shirt with Messi's name was first spotted online last year.

The internet then soon discovered the boys identity, who hails from the Jaghori District, but later arrived in Quetta, Pakistan.

"When he suddenly wakes up in the middle of the night, he starts crying that he wants to go to Messi," stated his father Arif Ahmadi, reported CNN conveying the passion the then five-year-old showed for Messi and football.

However, the poverty and obstacles did not deter Murtaza who was adamant to meet his hero, I really like Messi, I wish I can meet him, Murtaza said while speaking to BBC Urdu.
