imageISLAMABAD: The unprecedented uptake of mobile broadband has opened doors to innovative business ventures and Pakistan has witnessed some instant hits in transport domain with world known service providers are entering into Pakistan to facilitate commuters and tourists.

Pakistan is at crossroads of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) revolution where ample regulatory space is provided to innovators and entrepreneurs on bedrock of advanced telecom technologies.

The demand side of ICTs is ever expanding and operators, developers and service providers are rapidly catching up.

Uber, world's largest cab service has entered into Pakistan by launching its services in Lahore and proving to be an instant hit among commuters.

Similarly Careem, another car hiring service, is a huge success in cities of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad which provides onboard Wi-Fi facility in partnership with Telenor.

Travly is also another innovative service that allows a user to book a rickshaw, car, bus etc. online or through app.

Even the long distance travel services such as Daewoo Pakistan, Q-Connect are providing internet and multimedia solution to passengers in addition to developing online booking through website and apps.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed in its report that numerous apps and online services have been developed for hotel booking and event planning for travelers and tourists.

Applications have also been developed to buy movie tickets only.

Moreover, mobile broadband has become propeller of modernization in ICT services. The demand for mobile broadband is so high that the Mobile phone operators have covered 237 cities against their roll out obligation of 15 cities (in the first 18 months) as laid down in Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) license.

This is ample justification of the fact that ICT services have huge unmet demand and potential for investment and growth in Pakistan.

PTA is exerting all possible efforts, permissible within its regulatory ambit, to highlight importance of ICTs in every sector of economy and vows to provide maximum facilitation to private sector for bringing ingenious ICT services to people in Pakistan.
