imageISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will take up Central Power Purchase Agency (CPPA) petition on Thursday in proposed Rs.2.76 per unit cut in power tariff for September under monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.

Official sources told APP here that in a petition, the CPPA submitted to the regulator that some 10.034 billion units were sold in September costing Rs.36.85 billion.

The power companies charged reference fuel charges of Rs.6.43

per unit while the actual fuel cost remained at Rs.3.67 per unit. Therefore, a refund of Rs.2.76 was required to be passed on to the consumers.

The regulator was informed that 41.2 per cent electricity was generation by hydel, 26 percent by furnace oil and 22 percent by gas while nuclear and diesel share remained 4 and one percent respectively during the said period.

As per CPPA petition, cost of furnace oil power generation stood at Rs7.6 per unit, gas at Rs 5.24 per unit, diesel at Rs12.33 per unit and nuclear at Rs1.16 per unit.
