imageISLAMABAD: State Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Anusha Rehman Tuesday said the liberal and investment-friendly policies of the government ushered in a revolution in IT sector and made Pakistan a lucrative place for foreign and domestic investors.

The minister expressed these views during a meeting here with Jon Eddy, Head of Emerging Markets Vimpelcom, a global provider of telecommunication services.

The minister said that Pakistan offered ample opportunities for investment in the telecom sector and the government accorded highest priority to the development of IT and telecom sector.

"We believe in growth through public private partnership and expect Mobilink to play a more meaningful role in realizing the vision of Digital Pakistan."

She said, "We are rigorously pursuing the vision of Digital Pakistan by connecting people of unserved and under served areas which are still unconnected, by providing platforms for e-services.

Anusha Rehman said the government believed in bridging digital divide and had made under served and marginalized areas of the country its main focus.

Jon Eddy appreciated the telecom policy being pursued by the government and termed it forward looking as it had spurred healthy competition among the leading cellular companies.

He said Pakistan telecom sector had great potential and Mobilink - Vimpelcom subsidiary - had expanded its network and operations in Pakistan and using the country as a hub for all services to its affiliates.

He reiterated his company's commitment towards facilitating the people of Pakistan with modern IT and communication solutions.
