imageSIALKOT: The newly elected Central Chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz A Khokhar here on Thursday said a multi-pronged strategy was being formulated for gearing up production on modern lines.

"Under the programme drastic measures would be taken to enable the stakeholders compete in the international market successfully", he said.

In an interview with APP, he said that under the plan special focus would be accorded to improvement of design and effective marketing for doubling the export.

"PRGMEA would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with foreign stakeholders, garments designers marketing, and joint ventures for the expansion of industry would also be taken up".

Apart from this, he said that steps were also being taken for sending delegations to Eastern Europe and Central Asian countries for conducting study of markets as well as assessing the demands of Pakistani products and possibilities of holding single country exhibitions.

Ijaz further stated that PRGMEA will take bold steps for the promotion of entrepreneurship and students of fashion design institutes would be trained under this programme.

He urged the government to prepare marketing plan with the active consultation of trade bodies including PRGMEA for capturing traditional and non traditional markets.

The PRGMEA further revealed that arrangements were being finalised for setting up Pakistan Readymade Technical Training Institute costing over Rs 125 million and development work of the institute will soon be carried out.

"Presently, there are 50 industrial units producing Martial Art uniforms while 100 units are engaged in producing tracksuits and sportswear in Sialkot and catering the domestic and international needs".

He underscored the need of formulation of sector wise policies with the consultation of stakeholders for bringing boom in the country's export.

The formulation of sector wise policies would not only help in increasing exports but also support in minimizing problems confronted by the business community, he stressed.
