SSGC gearing up to ensure adequate gas

ssgcISLAMABAD: As winter is approaching faster, the Sui Southern Gas Company is working on several fronts to ensure adequate gas availability by utilizing its all resources.

According to an official source, the demand of gas for domestic, commercial and industrial use has increased manifold and full fledged work is in progress to utilize the gas reserves of the country.

The source says number of natural gas consumers has increased in Sindh and Balochistan from 1.6 million to 2.3 million.

The source says a comprehensive five-year plan that was prepared to combat Unaccounted For Gas (UFG) to bring it down to the acceptable limit has not been actively launched due to financial constraints.

However, the source says inroads have been made to contain the level of UFG through intense activities including repair of overhead and underground leakages, installation of ultrasonic gas meters, extensive pressure profiling, system augmentation, rehabilitation work and curbing gas theft.

According to the source, the UFG percentage has been aggravated due to a big change in sale-mix ratio, reduction in bulk sale of uninfected gas by about 26 percent.

The source added the SSGC has earned a net profit of Rs 4,724 million for financial year 2010-11 as compared to Rs 4,399 million during the last corresponding period.

In addition the company's earnings per share for the period under review increased to Rs 5.63 from Rs 5.24 in financial year 2009-10.

The source revealed the SSGC board of directors in its meeting approved the financial accounts for the year ended June 30 and proposed a 25 percent cash dividend for its shareholders and in addition 5 percent bonus shares was also declared by the board.
