MANILA: The Philippine central bank does not see a strong need to change policy settings, its governor said on Thursday, after data showed annual inflation held steady in April.
The consumer price index rose 1.1 percent in April from a year earlier, the same increase as seen in March.
"This continues to support our view that inflation should be manageable," Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando Tetangco said in a mobile phone message to reporters.
"Right now we still do not see any strong need to change policy settings," Tetangco said.
The central bank next meets to review policy on May 12, three days after the presidential election. The key rate has been 4 percent since September 2014, when it was raised by 25 basis points.
