ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Asghar Nawaz Friday underlined the need for further strengthening the integrated disaster management system and devising effective coordination mechanism among all stakeholders to ensure better preparedness against natural calamities.
Addressing the participants of a day-long 'National Review Conference-2015' held to analyze flood management and response efforts undertaken last year, he appreciated the collaborative role of various departments that resulted in satisfactory management of 2015-floods.
The chairman highlighted importance of holding such conferences saying that it would help identify the management flaws and improve strategy to tackle floods in future, said a press release.
He said coordinated and proactive response was must to thwart the effects of flood disasters.
Representatives of Pakistan Meteorological Department, Provincial Irrigation Departments, Provincial Disaster Management Authorities, National Highway Authority (NHA), Mangla and Tarbela dams gave presentations about their respective areas of working.
The federal and provincial departments suggested that there should be timely completion of flood mitigation works like acquiring modern equipment, improving relief goods stock and making emergency response mechanism stronger well before start of next monsoon season.
