FAISALABAD: Business community here on Wednesday has lauded the efforts of present government to transform energy constrained Pakistan into "energy surplus country" just within a period of two to three years.
President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) Ch. Muhammad Nawaz appreciated the ground breaking ceremony of 1223-MW power project at Balloki by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and said that government has accepted the challenge to fulfill the energy needs with a focussed approach and thus generate cheap and affordable electricity.
"The government has shown its sincerity by bringing down the construction cost of various projects which also speaks of the commitment of the present rulers to save the national wealth".
He said that in Faisalabad, industrial sector is running at 50 to 60 percent of its actual capacity only due to shortage of energy and high cost of doing business.
He hoped this new project will not only add sufficient electricity to the national grid but also bring down its cost which will help industrial sector to trim down its production cost.
Appreciating the steps taken by the present government, Rana Akhlaq Ahmed Chairman All Pakistan Cotton Power Looms Association said that Pakistan will become fastest growing country only if the energy needs are ensured with its adequate supply at affordable prices.
