ISLAMABAD: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Distributors Association Chairman Irfan Khokhar has called upon the government to take action against unethical business forces in the LPG market for extending relief to consumers.
"The LPG mafia is out to defame the government by passing on unbearable burden onto masses in shape of illegal raises in a quick succession-just Rs 20 raise per kg in a single week," the association's chairman told Friday.
He informed the association had been in touch with the chairman OGRA which was supposed to take measures, adding, however, the chairman had assured to make effective measures against the mafia to arrest the rising trend in LPG prices, soon.
He suggested the government should grant tax exemptions to LPG importers as part of efforts to encourage them to import more gas, ensuring adequate stocks.
Irfan Khokhar alleged the LPG marketing companies were involved in black-marketing and earning illegal profit of Rs 2 billion per day.
He said the latest increase by marketing companies in just one week was illegal and unjustified as OGRA had not issued any notification in this regard.
He said recently the LPG prices were increased to Rs.120 per domestic cylinder and Rs.480 per commercial cylinder by Rs 10 per kg.
"This was a total Rs 20 increase per kg, Rs 240 per domestic and Rs 960 per commercial cylinder in just one week, which is unjustified," he observed.
