imageKARACHI: Sindh government is in process to ensure that every slot of doctors, surgeons, nurses and paramedics in public sector facilities are duly filled so as to meet any emergency situation.

Provincial minister for health, Dr. Saghir Ahmed talking to media during the inaugural ceremony of Surgical ICU, Sindh Government Hospital, Korangi said the government was equally committed to meet the health care needs of masses on emergency basis.

"Concerted efforts are also being made to provide updated diagnostic, medical and surgical facilities in rural and urban areas," he said mentioning that attention is also being paid to address reported shortage of drugs and vaccines at public sector hospitals and healthcare units.

About the facility inaugurated at Korangi Hospital, the minister said the five bed ICU, equipped with four ventilators and complemented by another five bed coronary care unit (CCU) has been established against a cost of Rs 16.5 million.

"This was not only in consonance with the demand of the area people but also to enhance capacity of the hospital so that it may cater to ever growing number of patients," said Dr. Saghir Ahmed.

The health minister said the provincial government has embarked upon an ambitious plan to modernise treatment facilities for the masses belonging to rural and urban areas.

He referred to measures being adopted to curtail growing threat of hepatitis to the masses through mandatory provision of potable water and infection- free as well as safe blood transfusion besides extremely cautious application of syringes and needles.

Dr. Saghir Ahmed said measures are also being taken to establish a regular liver transplantation facility under Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation.
