imageISLAMABAD: A spokesman of Pakistan Meteorological Department told on Wednesday morning that moderate monsoon currents have penetrated into upper Punjab and Kashmir and are likely to become stronger Wednesday night.

According to Radio Pakistan, the spokesman said a westerly wave is also likely to approach upper parts of the country on Thursday.

It marks the beginning of monsoon season, ending a long dry spell in the country.

There are reports of heavy rain with thundershower in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara, Malakand Divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan during the last twelve hours.

Sialkot received 66 millimeter rain, Balakot 60 mm, Rawalpindi 34mm, Kotli 28mm, Murree 27mm, Muzaffarabad 23mm and Islamabad 15mm.

The Met office has also forecast rain with thundershowers associated with gusty winds in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Karachi, Mirpur Khas, Hyderabad divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next twelve hours.
