ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways (PR) has earned revenue of Rs. 20 billion, against the set target of Rs 18.60 billion during last six months.
An official of Pakistan Railways while talking to APP here on Wednesday said, "the government had set a revenue target of Rs. 18.60 billion for six months, but had earned Rs. 20 billion, Rs. 1.40 billion more than the set target which was a big achievement".
He said this improvement was due to the fact that competent officers were placed in the Railways and no one can raise finger on their credibility, adding, political interference, which was there in previous regimes, had also been eliminated.
He said credit must be given to the management of Railways and its employees for the improvement in the institution's affairs, however, there was still a lot to be improved.
He said the government was paying more attention towards increasing freight operations while improving the quality of passenger services.
To a question, he expressed confidence to overcome losses of Pakistan Railways within next four years.
"Pakistan Railways suffered a loss of Rs 30.504 billion during 2012-13 and we are confident that measures taken by present government will help overcome annual losses," he said.
To a question, he said last year, Railways was in deficit of Rs. 30 billion and in the current year it was estimated to be at Rs. 33.50 billion, but it will not happen as there was a lot of improvement in the financial affairs of the institution.
