ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Management is making efforts to persuade the government to induct 20 fuel efficient aircraft in its fleet, Secretary Aviation and Chairman PIA, Muhammad Ali Gardezi said on Friday.
Addressing an oath taking ceremony of the newly elected officers of PIA Senior Staff Association (PIASSA), he said that all employees should work for the betterment of the airline.
Director, Human Resource, Aijaz Mazhar, Director, Shahnawaz Rehman, senior officials and representatives of PIA's unions and associations were also present.
He said that employees' salary is around 17 percent of the total expenditures of the airline whereas fuel constitutes 56 percent of the total running cost.
The Chairman said the airline has inducted four Boeing 737-800 narrow body aircraft in its fleet which has resulted in fuel saving of 50 percent when compared to the airline's A310 Aircraft.
He said that all efforts are being made by the management to reduce costs, increase revenue and to induct of fuel efficient narrow body aircraft in its fleet.
All Unions and Associations have given their full support to the management, he said adding that the employees have to put in their sincere efforts for the betterment of the airline which will be beneficial not only for PIA employees but its stakeholders and passengers as well.
Muhammad Ali Gardezi said that suggestions for improvement were welcomed from employees.
He appreciated efforts put in by Director HR, Aijaz Mazhar in this regard.
He also lauded the performance of PIA employees in successful Hajj operation and hoped that the employees would continue to work with the same zeal and enthusiasm.
Both the office bearers, President PIA Senior Staff Association, Aqeel Siddiqui and General Secretary, Safdar Anjum in their inaugural address assured Chairman PIA of PIASSA full support for the betterment of the airline.
They thanked the officers of PIA for voting for the office bearers PIASSA.
Aqeel Siddiqui requested PIA management for inclusion of PIA Female officers in the selection process of foreign postings which was neglected in the past.
President PIASSA also requested PIA Management to look into the pension of retired PIA employees which is far below than what is being given to government officers.
He said that PIA employees have always contributed when ever required by the government but in case of salary or pension increase of government officers, PIA employees are not considered as being employees of a Corporation.
Safdar Anjum said that all valid demands of officers will be put forward for management's consideration with regard to promotions and posting.
