KARACHI: Bin Qasim Association of Trade and Industry (BQATI) organized a dinner in honor of Chairman Port Qasim Authority (PQA) Agha Jan Akhtar at DHA Creek Club here.
BQATI led by its Patron in-chief and founding president Mian Muhammed Ahmed, Acting President BQATI, A.Rasheed Jan Mohammed and members Managing Committee along with leading business leaders of Bin Qasim area were present on the occasion, said a statement on Thursday.
Mian Muhammed Ahmed welcomed the Chairman PQA and appreciated the role of PQA in this difficult time and termed BQATI and PQA as partners in progress for the growth of economy of the country.
He said that trade and industry are driving force of the economy and BQATI is committed to facilitate industries of the Bin Qasim industrial zone.
He that the BQATI enjoys a very cordial and excellent relationship with PQA, which is mutually beneficial to both entities and contributes positively to the overall economic activity of the area.
In fact, the industries located at Port Qasim Industrial Zones are playing pivotal role in generating revenue and employment, most of them are multinational and have brought considerable foreign direct investment in the country, he added.
On the occasion, the Acting President BQATI briefed that Bin Qasim Zone holds great potential for attracting foreign and local investment due to its unique location being adjacent to the port having modern shipping facilities.
It was emphasized that if the energy and certain administrative problems are addressed, BQATI expects more investment in the area, which will not only create employment but will give boost to the Industrialization, he said.
He said that a lot of industries in the port industrial area are not coming on stream owing to energy shortage and law and order situation.
He said BQATI would continue to serve as the bridge between trade and industry and government functionaries.
He said we are actively working at a pace to achieve our goal to have friendly business environment and despite the current economic challenges, we are confident that we will deliver.
Chairman PQA said the PQA is in good position to expand its industrial activities owing to huge land owned by the port authority.
He said it is the only port in Pakistan that has its own industrial zone, adding that we know that there is need for improving infrastructure for which we have asked concerned authority to improve its system.
He said the PQA is working to improve infrastructure in its industrial zone to make it the first choice of shippers and industrialists.
The Chairman PQA assured BQATI to look into the various problems and the suggestions put forward by the Association and it was agreed to maintain level of close interaction to achieve the desired objective.
President KCCI Haroon Agar, Central Chairman Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association, Jawed Bilwani, CEO Indus Motor, Pervez Ghias, CEO Lotte Chemical Pakistan Limited, Asif Saad and other notables were also present on the occasion.
