flood-in-pakistanISLAMABAD: As amny as 60 persons have died and 272 injured in the recent floods in various cities of Punjab, said an official of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Monday.

 

The official told APP that 1512 Punjab villages were affected by the floods, while flash floods damaged standing crops on 473,998 acres.

 

The official said as many as 898 cattle heads also perished in the province, including 552 in Rahim Yar Khan and 339 in Rajanpur.

 

He said that 20 persons also died and others injured in Rahim Yar Khan, 15 died and 241 injured in Rajanpur, four died and two injured in Sahiwal, six died and seven injured in Bahawalnagar, six died and six injured in Chiniot, five died and seven injured in Toba Tek Singh, and one died in Layyah and three died in Muzaffargarh due to the floods.

 

Replying to a question, he said a total of 887,345 people were affected by the floods in Punjab, including 93,211 in Rahim Yar Khan, 177,240 in Rajanpur, 616,623 in Dera Ghazi Khan and 90 in Hafizabad.

 

The official said that the floods damaged 16,440 houses fully and 9116 partially in Punjab.

 

As many as 10,039 houses were damaged partially and 1947 fully in Rahim Yar Khan, 3320 partially and 5550 fully in Rajanpur, and 2939 partially and 1541 fully in Dera Ghazi Khan.
