imageISLAMABAD: Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation rate during the year 2014-15 witnessed an increase of 4.53 percent as compared to same period of last year which is the lowest in 12 years.

On year-on-year basis, the CPI inflation increased by 3.16 percent in June, 2015 as compared to same month of last year.

Similarly on month on month basis the CPI based inflation increased by 0.62 percent in June as against May, 2015, Asif Bajwa, Chief Statistician Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said in a press briefing here on Wednesday.

He said the PBS collects the retail and the wholesale price and computes the CPI, Wholesale Price Index (WPI) on monthly basis and Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) on weekly basis.

In June, 2015 the CPI, WPI and SPI were increased by 0.62 percent, 1.18 percent and 0.99 percent respectively, he added.

The food items that witnessed increase in the prices during the month over previous month included potatoes (31.72%), tomatoes (22.58%), chicken (14.91%), cigarettes (13.45%), gram flour (8.32%), pulse gram (7.07%), sugar (4.8%), eggs (4.28%), pulse mash (3.49%), gur (2.98%) and gram whole (2.43%).

The food items that witnessed decrease in the prices during the period under review over previous month included fresh vegetables (11.11%), fresh fruits (3.11%), wheat flour (1.6%), rice (1.26%) and wheat (1.07%).

Non-food items which increased during the period under review included kerosene oil (5.53%), motor fuel (2.71%), tailoring (1.74%) and wheat (1.07%).

Top few commodities which witnessed increase on year on year basis were tomatoes, onions, pulse gram, gram flour, pulse mash, chicken, cigarettes, sugar, tea, fresh vegetables, motor vehicle tax, tailoring, woolen readymade garments and dry cells.

The items which witnessed decreasing trend in their prices on year on year basis included potatoes, cooking oil, vegetable ghee, rice, kerosene oil, motor fuel and transport service.

During June 2015 over June 2014, the trimmed core inflation has been observed as 3.8 percent while it was 7.9 percent during June, 2014 over June 2013.

Similarly during June, 2015 over same month of last year, the non-food and non-energy core inflation has been observed as 4.6 percent while it was 8.7 percent during June, 2014 over June 2013.
