China shares end flat, shrugs off tightening

Published Updated

HONG KONG: China's main stock index closed up 0.1 percent on Monday as high oil prices drove up shares of energy companies and banks shrugged off the central bank's latest move to tighten liquidity.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index ended at 2,909.1 points, after closing up 0.3 percent on Friday. The central bank raised banks' required reserve ratios late Friday for the third time this year.

The financial sub-index closed up 0.3 percent, with top lender Industrial and Commercial Bank of China ending up 1.9 percent.
