KARACHI: “Heroine” is not inspired by any one person, says Director Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for his realistic films like “Fashion” and “Page 3”.
He was fending off pointed questions by the media during the launch of the trailer of “Heroine” and was accompanied by Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta who have played central roles in the film.
Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, the film is about the ups and downs in the life of a movie star. “'Heroine' is not inspired by any one person. The movie is about Mahi (Kareena Kapoor) and her journey towards stardom and the ups and downs that come with it," he said.
Kapoor lives up to the expectations as she gets into the skin of her character Mahi in the just released trailer. There's a glimpse of the much-awaited item song “Halkat Jawani” too. She is seen getting steamy with co-star Arjun Rampal in the trailer.
Kapoor waxed eloquent about how her journey as an actress would not have been complete without Bhandarkar's Heroine. "Ever since I was a baby in my mother's stomach, I have wanted to be a heroine. I used to listen to Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit songs on my walkman and dance away in school bathrooms and any place… Today, with this film, I feel the journey has been fantastic! I am so glad this film was in my destiny," said Kapoor.
The trailer has bold dialogues that instantly remind one of, Vidya Balan starrer “The Dirty Picture”. However, Bhandarkar said, "I liked The Dirty Picture. The film was about the rise of an item girl in the 1980s. Our film is more modern in its approach. The two films are very different and you cannot compare them."
Kapoor also said that Heroine has nothing similar to “The Dirty Picture”, and that it is “unfair” to compare the two.
"I am not getting into anybody's shoes. I am very comfortable in my own and I would say that no one will get into mine either," Kapoor said at the trailer launch on Wednesday evening.
Heroine releases on 21 September, Kapoor's birthday.
