Nausheen Javaid appointed FBR Chairperson after Shabbar Zaidi's removal

The Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of Nausheen Javaid Amjad as the new Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), it was learned on Monday.

As per a summary for the cabinet made available to Business Recorder, Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi will no longer serve as the Chairman FBR after he was terminated from his post with immediate effect.

It is pertinent to inform that Shabbar Zaidi was on leaves for an indefinite time period, whereas Nausheen Javaid a Grade-22 officer was handling all the affairs of FBR in his absence.

Zaidi, a chartered accountant by profession, was appointed as Chairman FBR for a period of two years, on honoray/ pro bono basis in May 2019.

Speculations were strife as to who will replace Zaidi, just days ago, Business Recorder reported that Shabbar Zaidi will not resume duty as the FBR chairman.

It was learned that Shabbar Zaidi has conveyed to the secretary Ministry of Finance that he will not be able to resume duty as FBR chairman due to health issues. Zaidi, however, has not confirmed tendering his resignation to the government.

In February, reports circulated regarding the resignation of Chairman FBR Shabbar Zaidi, it was reported that he has informed the top officials of his decision, after resigning from the post due to health problems.

However, Zaidi later denied the news saying that he has not resigned from the post of FBR Chairman and said that he cannot continue further work due to health problems, and has informed the top officials of the decision as well.
