India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev has predicated arch rivals Pakistan among the possible semifinalists in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019.

“The top three teams in the league stage will be India, England and Australia. The fourth one is doubtful as I expect a group of teams to fight for it. Can be between New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa,” Kapil said, quoted Hindustan Times.

Kapil, considered among the all time great all-rounders of the game, picked his side boosting the likes of skipper Virat Kohli and veteran wicketkeeper batsman Mahender Singh Dhoni as favorites to win the trophy.

“The team [India] has a great combination of youth and experience. In my opinion, they have the right balance and of course, there is Dhoni and Kohli. India will definitely be in the top four. But that is where it gets tricky. They have a good team but belief and performance will be key,” said Kapil.

The upcoming mega cricketing tournament would follow a round robin and knock-out format, just like its 1992 predecessor meaning that all teams play each other and thus the most successful sides go through as the top four.

The World Cup 2019 is scheduled to begin in England and Wales from May 30.
