ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has called for protection of Kashmiris in Jammu and Indian cities, saying their safety shouldn’t be compromised as anti-Kashmiri rhetoric has been ratcheted up.

According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq taking to twitter expressed his distress over reports of continued attacks on Kashmiris in Jammu and elsewhere in India following the Thursday’s Pulwama blast that left more than 40 CRPF personnel dead.

Mirwaiz strongly denounced thrashing, intimidation and damage to properties of hundreds of Kashmiri students, labourers, businessmen in various Indian states and the Darbar move employees and Kashmiris putting up in Jammu region.

“Fanatic elements have got a great excuse and are let loose, having a field day in executing their communal agenda by targeting Kashmiris,” Mirwaiz said. He said it is responsibility of the administration to control these elements and ensure the safety of Kashmiris wherever they are being attacked and harassed and their properties vandalised and burnt down.

He said the reports of attacks against Kashmiris who are simply studying or doing their businesses outside are very distressing.

He added people of Kashmir are known for their all-out help and support to outsiders who visit the Valley as tourists or pilgrims whenever in need but it is extremely unfortunate that they are being targeted and assaulted and the majority is silent over it.
