South Africa suffer major blow ahead of 2nd T20I against Pakistan

The South African team has suffered major setbacks ahead of their encounter with Pakistan in the second T20I, after captain Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper batsman Quniton de Kock were ruled out of the T20I series.

The wicketkeeper batsman sustained a groin injury during the fifth ODI against Pakistan and will need a period of treatment and rehabilitation to make a full recovery. "Quinton sustained an injury to his left groin while fielding during the last ODI on Wednesday," South Africa team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said, quoted ESPNcricinfo.

"He will be unable to take part in the T20I series against Pakistan and we are hopeful he will be fit for selection for the Test series against Sri Lanka starting in Durban on February 13," he added.

Meanwhile, skipper Faf du Plessis announced at the end of the match announced that he would rest for the remainder of the series. The team will be led by David Miller in his absence.

Janneman Malan will make his T20I debut as he would replace de Kock, and will be available for the final two matches. With the T20I series 1-0, Pakistan will take on Proteas in the second T20I on Sunday at Johannesburg.
