The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is celebrating its 70th anniversary today (Sunday). To celebrate the event in letter and spirit, SBP has announced to organise a number of activities to commemorate the achievements and milestones achieved so far. The SBP inaugurated by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on July 1, 1948 and today SBP is completing its 70 years.
On the occasion of 70th anniversary, the SBP has organized special exhibitions at SBP Museum and open house session at Main Banking Hall that will be open to public on July 1, 2018. On July 1, 2018, the exhibition will be inaugurated by the senior most Governor of SBP and the exhibition will run throughout the month of July.
During the open house session multiple exhibitions including Commemorative Stamp, History of Pakistan's Currency, Architectural History of SBP Building and Technological Progress have been arranged at Museum & Art Gallery, SBP headquarters.
The activities in the Main Banking Hall have been divided into Commemorative Coins and Prize Bonds, Exhibition of Currency Cycle, Showcasing of Modern Banking Practices, Awareness on Fraud Prevention and Fun Arena.
A special session with present and former governors of SBP will be held at Learning Resource Centre on Sunday. Tariq Bajwa, Governor SBP and former governors Dr Ishrat Hussain, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Yaseen Anwar, Ashraf Mehmood Wathra will share their thoughts on future vision of SBP.
A special documentary focusing the important milestones and achievements during the past seven decades of the SBP will also be screened during the seminar. Keeping in view the extensive public interest, special counters will be set up for the sale of Commemorative Coins and Prize Bonds to visitors. Visitors will easily be able to buy coins and Prize Bonds from these counters.
Exhibition of currency cycle will include activities like currency designing and printing processes and live demonstration of currency notes examination/counting machines, prize bonds draw, live demonstrations of Desktop Notes Sorting (DNS) and Countertop Notes Sorting (CNS) machines. A video will also be displayed to show the of state of the art notes processing system.
Awareness on Fraud Prevention will also be given to depict secure practices in modern banking. SBP on 70th anniversary said that SBP is credibly committed to macro-economic stability and equitable economic growth and has earned the reputation of being a professional, progressive and forward-looking institution. SBP is also a symbol of unity with a diverse human capital and presence all over Pakistan.
Cognizant of its nodal role in influence the economic-cycle on the one hand while developing the financial ecosystem on the other, SBP is one of the few central banks leading the global initiative in financial inclusion.
