PTI's lady legislator, Dr Seema Zia on Friday slammed the PPP government for raising an 'ignorant' Sindhi nation with six million children out of schools across the province, despite billions of budgetary spending.
Debate on the fiscal budget 2018-19 turned sore during the Sindh Assembly sitting, after Dr Seema said that the PPP government is raising an 'ignorant' Sindh nation since six million children in the province are out of schools, despite billions of fiscal allocations.
Her remarks unleashed a protest from treasury benches who demanded 'words' should be expunged from the proceedings record. Shehla Raza, Deputy Speaker, also took part in the protest and exchanged words with Dr Seema. However, she immediately offered her apology, saying "I am sorry if my words hurt anyone feelings".
She also called it her 'last ever' budget speech, saying 'this assembly has attained its uplifting but not the poor outside this assembly". She said that being a legislator is being too painful for her as the assembly failed to recognize the state of poor and their long-running troubles outside. "After becoming a legislator I came to realise that why poor are kept poor," she stated.
Earlier, Sindh Home Minister, Sohail Anwar Siyal challenged the PTI chairman to prove that his government sells postings in Sindh police department. He asked Imran Khan either prove his allegation or render an apology. He failed to utter a single word on budget and widely spoke against opposition. He however claimed that the PPP has restored peace in Sindh that reduced kidnapping for ransom in some districts.
MQM's Zubair Ahmed Khan blamed the PPP for its anti-Muhajir drive, saying that the ethnic unrest and hatred are growing in the province. "The PPP is inciting, it's creating hatred with its attitude, we must be told that what is the Muhajirs fault?" he questioned, saying that the Sindh government has deprived Karachi and Hyderabad of potable water and such other facilities.
"Seeing prejudices and polarization, it seems that the Sindh government is in haste to constitute a new province in Sindh," he said, adding that Muhajirs are under suppression in the province, as no uplift scheme in the budget seen materializing in areas where the ethnic minority resides, in both Karachi and Hyderabad. He also demanded for land allocation for graveyards in every district besides setting up of libraries. PML-F's Nusrat Sehar Abbasi and Dr Rafiq Banbhan, PPP's Ghulam Qadir Chandio, and other legislators also spoke during the post-budget sitting.
