MOSUL: Bomb and gun attacks killed two people, including an army brigadier general, and wounded 16 others in Iraq on Tuesday, security officials said.
Police Captain Mohammed al-Juburi said a car bomb exploded around 1:00 pm (1000 GMT) in the centre of a market in the northern city of Mosul, killing one person and wounding 14.
First Lieutenant Islam Mohammed confirmed the toll.
An interior ministry official meanwhile said that Brigadier General Aziz Najam was shot dead by unknown gunmen in his car in the Jamiyah neighbourhood in western Baghdad.
And two civilians were wounded by a magnetic "sticky bomb" attached to a parked car in the Bayaa neighbourhood in the capital's south, the official said.
Violence in Iraq is down from its peak in 2006 and 2007, but attacks remain common, killing 151 people in January.
