As Greenwich University completes three decades since inception, we take a look back at our milestones. What begun with a single vision is today a university that has impacted the lives of thousands of students. The revolutionary idea to establish was conceived by Dr Kamal Ahmed Khan, an educationist and visionary. Greenwich University was established in 1987 under an Act of the Government of Sindh, and is duly recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Our journey has been our destination. Humble beginnings with just 32 students, fuelled by the passion to push boundaries, helped us to distinguish ourselves as the torchbearers of excellence. In the short span of four-years, the Institute moved from a bungalow to a purpose-built campus with a capacity for 1500 students.
Yet another milestone was, when the Provincial Assembly of Sindh passed a bill called the Greenwich University Act 1997, allowing the University to be an autonomous body with powers to provide instructions in varied branches of learning and to make provisions for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. We became legally empowered to offer our degree programs overseas, and also to grant affiliation to other institutions.
The University has witnessed quantum leaps in the field of academic distinction. Students who excel are duly awarded recognition and incentives.
Greenwich University focuses not just on academics but also on honing our students' qualities of leader ship, teamwork and interpersonal skills. We believe in contributing to our communities and the Corporate Social Responsibility Award 2013 received at the International Summit on Corporate Social Responsibility proved that.
We have grown both vertically, scaling new and sustainable heights in the field of education, and horizontally, offering in addition to Business Administration, Economics & Finance and Management Studies, faculties in the fields of Humanities, Mass Communication, Media Studies and Social Sciences are also thriving. Special emphasis is laid on competency in the English language to ensure that our students meet requirements of a competitive job market. Greenwich University has now opened its Branch Campus in Mauritius, and has broadened its horizons beyond Pakistan, becoming Pakistan's only university recognized by the Tertiary Education Commission Mauritius, with the aim of imparting quality education internationally.
Today, our alumni represent us in every sphere of society, and our students reflect potential, as a living testament to the learning they received, making effective use of their knowledge for the development of the country.
