Mir Afzal Khan of Edhi Foundation and Saeed Khan of Aman Foundation were the winners of first annual Edhi Award for Pre-hospital Care. The award has been initiated by The Aman Foundation, in collaboration with the Edhi Foundation and ceremony for the first award was organised at local hotel on Wednesday.
The purpose of the award is to recognise the efforts and courage of pre-hospital care staff and to carry forward the legacy of Abdul Sattar Edhi. It was presented to one employee each from the pre-hospital care staff of the Edhi Foundation and Aman Foundation.
The Jury was provided with 3 nominees each from the Edhi Foundation and the Aman Foundation. After careful consideration and judgement of the skills and commitment shown by each, one winner each from both organizations was selected. In addition to the Edhi Award for Pre-hospital Care, the ceremony acknowledged and honoured those who may have lost their lives in the line of duty. Short documentaries about the Aman Foundation, the Edhi Foundation and insights into the lives of nominees and their work were shown at the event. From the Edhi Foundation, Mir Afzal won the award who has served the Edhi Foundation for 34 years and risked his life on many occasions to save lives. From the Aman Foundation, Saeed Khan won the Award for his dedication and unparalleled services. The nominees included Akhtar Ali and Muhammad Altaf from the Edhi Foundation and Nadeem Ahmed and Imtiaz Hussein from the Aman Foundation.
The award ceremony was attended by professionals in the field of medical care as well as leaders from various industries. The Chief Guest, Bilquis Edhi, wife of Abdul Sattar Edhi graced the occasion with her presence. Fayeza Naqvi, Chairman of The Aman Foundation spoke at the ceremony and shed light on the purpose of the Edhi Award for Pre-hospital Care. "The Award shall be an inspiration for all those involved in saving lives", she said on the occasion. Faisal Edhi spoke about the contributions of his father and the spirit of selfless service. Dr Rashid looma represented the Jury and shared his views about the importance of pre-hospital care.
