KP Assembly demands FATA's merger

Published December 15, 2016 Updated December 15, 2016 12:00am

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution demanding the merger of Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The house resumed proceedings with Speaker Assad Qaisar in the chair. The resolution was moved by Dr Haider Ali of PTI. The resolution demanded that tribal areas should be merged in KP keeping in view of the aspiration and wishes of tribal people. However, Mufti Said Janan of JUI-F opposed the resolution and said that the province is lacking resources to run the affairs of the tribal area.
When the Speaker Asad Qaiser put the resolution to vote, the MPAs belonging to JUI-F opposed it and so the resolution was passed with a majority. However, PML-N, which is ruling in federal government, supported the resolution. The Assembly also passed another resolution moved by Mufti Fazal Gafoor of JUI-F demanding federal government to raise voice for the killing of innocents in Allepo, Syria and brutal murdering of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
The resolution said that brutalities against Muslims should be condemned. The resolutions were passed by the house unanimously. Meanwhile, concern over non-issuance of no objection certificate to foreigners visiting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also echoed in the provincial assembly. Expressing annoyance over denying NoC to foreign investors, PTI MPA, Dr Haider Ali termed it a discrimination against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that is trying to come out of crises after braving militancy.
He said a British delegation was barred to visit KP on the pretext of unsatisfactory security situation adding, we should have been informed if the tour was being cancelled on nick of time. Dr Haider said that privilege of the house has been breached as a resolution was passed by the house when a delegation of DFID was stopped to visit KP. He said out foreigners who wants to invest in KP due to its richly endowed should be facilitated.
Taking the floor, Parliamentary leader of PML-N, Sardar Aurangzeb Nalaota said that ruling PTI should have adopted a more feasible option by pursuing federal government in centre. He lamented that PTI government that win majority of mandate in KP has ignored its responsibility of raising voice for its people in National Assembly. He said that PTI has failed to deliver in KP and masses would elect PML-N to represent them in next general elections. All the crises and problems that have been witnessed in KP were due to the irresponsible behavior of PTI-led government.
Sikander Sherpao of Qoami Watan Party (QWP) said that all the provinces should be treated on basis of parity as discrimination of any kind would increase the deprivation of smaller provinces. On the occasion, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha of PPP also complained against the policy of provincial government regarding issuing of funds and said that he has not yet received the amount that was allocated for his constituency in annual budget for the current. The Speaker later adjourned the proceedings of the house till 3:00 of Friday.
