Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Army recorded victories against Pakistan Navy team on the opening day of the Inter-Services Squash Championship, which got under way under the aegis of PAF Sports Control Committee here at PAF Hashim Khan Complex on Tuesday.
In Team event Farhan of PAF defeated Taimoor of Pakistan Navy in straight sets, the score was 11-5, 11-9 and 11-8. In the other singles Faraz of Navy shocked former Asian Junior Champion Safeer of PAF in straight sets, the score was 12-10, 11-7 and 11-9. Both Faraz and Safeer played well and exhibited some good strokes. Waqas Mehboob of PAF beat Naeem of Pakistan Navy by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-5 and 11-9. Thus PAF defeated Pakistan Navy by 2-1 and marched into next round.
In the other matches Pakistan Army also recorded victory against Pakistan Navy by 3-0. International Abbas Shoukat of Pakistan Army defeated Faraz of Pakistan Navy by 3-1 in thrilling encounters. The score was 10-12, 11-9, 11-7 and 11-8. Both Abbas Shoukat and Faraz produced good display of stroke-play and attacking strategies. Abbas Shoukat has better command over his nick and forceful smashes while Faraz was too good with his drop shorts. In the other matches Raees of Army defeated Naeem of Pakistan Navy by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-9 and 11-7, Sadam Ul Haq of Army beat Sayed Umar of Navy by 3-0, the score was 12-10, 11-6 and 11-5. Thus Army beat Navy by 3-0.
