Anti-encroachment drive: 20 illegally constructed shops, sheds demolished
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday demolished at least 20 shops and sheds that were constructed illegally on the amnesty plots in buffer-zone Sector-15. The KMC's anti-encroachment department's officials said that the operation was conducted on the orders of the Sindh High Court's (SHC).
They said 'mafias' were actively constructing shops on the amenity plots near Jamia Masjid Muhammadi and Madressa-e-Jamia Qurania at Miskeenabad Bangali Parha. The officials said that at least 20 shops and structures have been demolished with the help of heavy machinery.
On the other hand, KMC officials also claimed to have issued a one-week warning to a fruit processor and vegetable laboratory located on the Rashid Minhas Road Federal B. Area. A quality control team headed by food inspector Syed Zafar Shah conducted a raid on said lab and processor where they found the food unit producing jam, jelly, ketchup and juices with rotten/decayed fruits and vegetables.
The team has collected product samples from the food unit and that were sent to the KMC laboratory for tests. Legal action will be taken against company owner if the samples failed to meet the set quality standards. The civic body's inspection team would visit the company next week to review quality arrangements, the officials said.
