SEOUL: Seoul shares opened on a strong note on Tuesday, with investors shrugging off Standard & Poor's credit rating downgrade on nine euro zone countries.
Early gains were led by steelmakers, with POSCO climbing 2.08 percent and Hyundai Steel Co rising 1.99 percent.
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) was up 1.19 percent at 1,881.45 points as of 0001 GMT.
