With the advent of winters the demand of natural gas increases manifolds due to water and space heating requirements by the gas consumers. Subsequently this winter, Sui Southern Gas Company is experiencing a shortfall of 350-400 mmcfd in meeting the enormous demand of gas that has resulted due to severely low temperatures.
The temperature went to its very low in Balochistan as 30 years record was broken. This led to excessive demand of gas and SSGC for the first time in its history had to shut down the gas supply to CNG stations in the province. The current demand of gas in Quetta has risen to 180 mmcfd from 45 mmcfd (in summers) whereas the pipeline capacity is 150 mmcfd.
As a highly customer centric utility, Sui Southern Gas Company always places its domestic customers as its first priority in gas supply. The company fully understands and realises the problems faced by its customers over last few days in its franchise areas of Sindh and Balochistan and is taking every step to improve the situation for the comfort of its customers. In light of Company's gas load management the situation has improved during last two days and is likely to improve even further in coming days. SSGC requests them to make a judicious use of gas for maximum availability.-PR
