The participants of British Council International study called on Deputy Speaker, National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday, says a press release. The participants of the study visit hail from Bangladesh, Bosnia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, UK, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The deputy speaker apprised the participants about the formation, functions and organisational set-up of the National Assembly and its standing committees. He said that the present parliament had passed record number of legislation including the historic 18th, 19th and 20th constitutional amendments.
He said that the socio-economic uplift of the masses, welfare of the youth and gender equality was the main focus of present parliament. He said that there was a vibrant opposition in the parliament and it had played a very positive and constructive role in strengthening the parliament and democratic process.
The deputy speaker also apprised the participants about the formation and objectives of young parliamentarians' forum in the National Assembly. He informed that a bipartisan young parliamentarian forum consists of 90 members of the National Assembly and Senate under 40 year age had established under his patronage.
He said that the main purpose of the forum is to provide a platform to young parliamentarians where they can share and develop ideas, improve their legislative and leadership skills, and form inter-regional and inter-party networks. Replying to a question regarding the 20th amendment he said that 20th amendment approved by the Parliament would ensure free fair and transparent election and independent Election Commission. "It will also ensure a neutral interim set-up for election and would strengthen the democratic process in the country" he said.-PR
