The Islamabad Women's Police Station has two new ambulances and other equipments, thanks to the Women's Police Assistance Program run by the US Embassy.
At a handover ceremony at the Islamabad Police Lines on Wednesday, Jon Danilowicz, Director of the Narcotics Affairs Section at the US Embassy, presented the equipment, including ambulances, vans, radios, and first aid kits to the Women's police station and female officers of the Islamabad Police Line.
"Female police are critical and growing part of Islamabad's law enforcement and the US Embassy is honoured to be partners with them," said Director Danilowicz. "This equipment will help increase the capacity of the female police, giving them the tools they need to do their jobs and to help keep Islamabad safe", he added. The equipment donated includes two ambulances, two coaster buses, two vans, two motorcycles, 64 helmets, 20 first aid kits, 10 handheld radios, two mobile radio sets, and a battery charger.
The equipment handover is part of a larger US government program to assist female police across Pakistan. The Women's Police Program was initiated in 2011 and is designed to assist female police in developing their professional capacity by providing training, equipment, and infrastructure. To date, the US government has allocated $5 million to the program.
Previous training sessions have educated female police on such topics as operating police vehicles and using computers. The program is currently running training programs in first aid and investigation skills. The Women's Police Program is training female police in Islamabad, Karachi, Balochistan and Peshawar.-PR
