PAC reviews audit objections

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday reviewed audit objections concerning the departtments of law and environment KP Assembly Speaker Kiramatullah Khan, who is chairman of the committee, presided over the first session while the second session was chaired by Mohammad Zamin Khan.
Those who attended the meeting included Saqibullah Khan Chamkani, Fazal Shakoor Khan and Malik Tehmash Khan. The PAC during its detailed discussion on audit objections regarding the departments of law and environment for the year 2009-10 observed that most of the objections were raised due to lack of provision of the required record. The committee through the registrar, Peshawar High Court, directed the law department to deposit Rs 239,000 in the government treasury under the head of travelling allowance.
It also directed depositing Rs 5.5 million immediately with the department of revenue in the head of cutting of trees for Warsak Gravity Canal. A committee was also constituted under the chairmanship of Saqibullah Khan Chamkani for resolution of a land dispute with the Pakistan Army.
Regarding the construction of an Aquarium at a cost of Rs 11.259 million, the committee ordered a departmental inquiry into the issue and asked for a report within 15 days. The committee also directed for recovery of Rs 956,535 paid to the Director, Management Project of Protected Area of Chitral. The PAC directed an investigation into non-recovery of Rs 1,449,000 from a contractor by the Division Forest Officer, Chitral and sought report within 15 days. The committee unanimously approved the report of the sub-committee on department of environment and directed the department of forest to undertake measures against illegal cutting of forests.
