20th Constitutional Amendment: PTI has reservations over caretaker government: Qureshi

Former Foreign Minister and Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the concept of 20th Constitutional Amendment is good, but his party has reservations over the procedure defined for setting up the caretaker government. He was speaking to media after heading a Farmers Associates Pakistan (FAP) meeting held here on Tuesday.
Qureshi said that 20th Amendment was proposed to give legal cover to some 28 parliamentarians who were being affected in result of Supreme Court's ruling against bogus voter lists. He said both PPP and PML-N had constituted a six-member parliamentary committee to decide caretaker government set-up without giving right of expression to other political parties.
He underscored that his party had reservations over this formula, as several parties in the parliament and outside wanted free and fair elections. It was their democratic right to have their representation in the caretaker set up, he added. Under the 20th Amendment, it was proposed that Election Commission should be independent, which was in the national interest. PTI and all other parties were in favour of this proposal, but their reservations about caretaker government should be addressed.
