Out of 98 faculty members of 15 selected universities of the country sent by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for PhD on scholarships, forty faculty members have successfully completed their PhD studies from reputed foreign institutions. The Commission had launched a specific programme in 2004 to strengthen the faculty of comparatively weak universities and bring them at par with the developed ones.
Ninety-eight full time faculty members were sent to universities of Austria, France and Germany. A total of 45 teachers proceeded to France, 42 to Germany and 11 to Austria. The 40 returnees have rejoined their parent organisations. Following scholars have completed their studies during the last month, a senior official said.
