Sindh Police on Tuesday found five bodies of premature baby girls from garbage dump in the jurisdiction of the Mehmoodabad police station. According to details, the recoveries of these babies were made at sector E of Akhtar Colony that resulted to spread profound grieve in the locality.
The residents of the area, who gathered at the place, demanded to the authorities to take punitive measures against the responsible persons and set an example for others. They suspected that private maternity homes, running in the area, might have been behind the incident.
On being informed by the scavengers, police had recovered five bodies; two babies from plastic jars; three bodies, which were wrapped in the shopping bags, from a garbage drum. They said that all infants were aborted and baby girls and added that the investigation in this regard have been initiated to take the responsible persons to task. Later, bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. According to hospital sources, all babies, who were girls and aborted, had 300 to 400 grams in weight and they appeared to be two to five months old. No case was registered till filing of this report.
