DHA Degree College for Women Phase-VII (Extn) organised its first ever Elocution Competition in the College here on Friday. Renowned Poet Naseer Turabi was the chief guest on the occasion. The aim of the programme was to develop in students in their formative age the ability to speak clearly and correctly, especially in public and enable them to pronounce the words in a way that is considered to be socially acceptable.
The programme was divided into two sessions. The first half was reserved for the Urdu Elocution and the second for the English. Both the (Urdu & English) participants recited selected excerpts and poems of the well known poets and writers. Naseer Turabi and Mrs Riffat Abdullah acted as the judges on the occasion.
Naseer Turabi speaking on the occasion applauded the efforts of the teachers and students who participated in the competition and said that promotion of the art of elocution has great literary and educational significance that helps in building the confidence and linguistic abilities of the students thus turning them into good speakers and orators.
He also congratulated the college Principal Dr Farhat Agha on the successful organisation of the innovative Elocution Competition which he termed as of great educational value in building versatile personality of students. The Elocution Competition was organised by Amber Fatima lecturer of Urdu Department and Ayesha Shahid lecturer of English Department of the College.-PR
