By the Grace of Allah, SCO has completed 35 years of continued devotion to the cause of expanding comprehensive IT and Telecom facilities to the people of most rugged areas of AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan. SCO's subscribers are living in the most difficult and far-flung areas of the country.
As DG SCO, I am fully satisfied with pace of growth of the organisation and enhancement of our services ie Digital Landline (SLines), GSM services (SCOM), WLL services (SCO CDMA in AJ&K and Northern Wireless in Gilgit Baltistan), Internet DSL broadband and Dialup services (Snet), Calling Cards in (Special Calling Cards) in our Area of responsibility. Despite limited resources SCO has introduced numerous value added services like PPC, PPT, Digital Cross connect service (DXX), utility Bills payment, Tele-voting, VPN, GPRS and Free Phone Service and in maintaining an elaborate large capacity network of Optical Fiber Cable, Microwave and Satellite which not only can meet intrinsic requirements of SCO but also offers long haul media to security and defence forces and other telcos operating in AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan.
As per our projections for the year, we have been able to secure Government of Pakistan approval of our long cherished dream of connecting Pakistan with our trusted friend, China. Pak-China Optical Fiber connectivity project will usher new vistas of development, both in economic and telecom fields. The new connectivity world take care of most of the transit traffic for China. I expect exponential increase in our revenues after commissioning of this link. I am sure SCO would, as per its traditions, fare well in completing the project within stipulated time.
The strength of our organisation lines in its trained manpower. We must brace ourselves to embark upon more difficult undertakings. Provision of telecom facilities in FATA is included in our original mandate. I see this as a great opportunity for SCO to expand its operations in this under served and disturbed region, in the near future.
As Director General SCO, I feel honoured that despite competitive market, de-regulated telecom environment and presence of all cellular giants in the area, SCO has been declared Significant Market Player (SMP) by PTA during the current year. State of our earned revenue also reflects on vibrancy of the organisation of which I am proud of.
I take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to those who had served SCO in the past in various capacities and to those who are presently bearing the hardships of the terrain and weather for provision of services to our worthy customers. A word of special mention for our Shuhada who laid their lives to link remote and far-flung areas with rest of the country.
I also extend my sincere thanks to Chairman and Members of SCO Project Management Board, General Headquarters, Ministry of Information Technology, Planning and Development Division and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for their whole-hearted co-operation and support to SCO.
I re-affirm the commitment of my organisation that we will leave no stone unturned to provide state of the art telecom services to the remotest corner of AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan despite financial constraints and difficulties of the area. May Allah guide us all in our sincere endeavours and be our protector "Ameen". SCO remittances (annual revenues) to the Government exchequer during the year are highest in 35 years long history.
