Various labour unions and organisations Sunday organised rallies to support the cause of labourers and paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Chicago, who laid their lives for the rights of labourers. Hundreds of labourers gathered at Karachi Press Club (KPC) to express solidarity with their fraternity and struggle for the due cause of their rights in the public and private sector.
The PIA Employees Unity Front Convenor, Khaja Ehsan Tarani, while addressing the rally said that they will continue to struggle for the rights of the labourers and seek all the support from the democratic government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for the purpose.
He praised the measures taken by the present government to give full protection to the rights of the masses, including the labourers and providing job opportunities to the youths to get rid of menace of unemployment and poverty.
Meanwhile, another rally was also taken out by Dawood Khursheed Memorial Foundation, which was commenced from Korangi Industrial Area and culminated at Karachi Press Club (KPC) to express solidarity with labourers. Addressing the participants, Chairman of the foundation Arif Dawood Advocate paid rich tributes to labourers of Chicago, who laid down their lives during historic struggle in 1886.
While advocating the cause of the labourers, he said that there was no need for introduction of new laws or ordinances but implementation of the existing laws, which fully protect the interest and welfare of the labourers.
Addressing the rally, the foundation representative Huma Naqvi said that there was need to create awareness about the rights of women workers who were facing various problems at their work place and need equal rights as they were playing an important role in socio-economic development of the country.
