Like other parts of the world, the Labour Day was observed across Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday to pay glorious tributes to those workers who laid down their lives for the achievement of their rights, 125 years ago in Chicago, USA.
Special rallies coupled with processions were staged in all ten districts of the state including Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Neelam valley, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti, Hattiyan, Havaili and Bhimbher to observe the day.
Various May day processions were taken out here from View Point near Quaid-i-Azam Stadium Chowk separately under the auspices of PWD Workers Union and the Jammu Kashmir Peoples National Party.
The processions passed through Mian Muhammad Road, Shaheed Chowk and Allama Iqbal Road. The participants of the procession raised slogans against the increased dearness and inflation in the country including AJK. The demonstrations later converged into a big congregation.
Addressing the rally, speakers including the J & K Peoples National Party's Central Secretary General and renowned legal expert Raja Zulfiqar Advocate, Muhammad Shabir, Secretary General PWD Workers Union Touqeer Zia and others vowed to continue the mission of the martyrs of Chicago to secure and safeguard the due rights, dignity and honor of labourers.
The speakers highlighted the importance of this historic day besides paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Chicago. They said the best way to pay tribute to the martyrs of Chicago was to follow their foot steps for procuring and safeguarding the due rights of the working class particularly the laborers.
