Senator Gul Mohammad has demanded modern infrastructure facilities for the people of Tharparkar. According to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Senator here Sunday, the Senator sought for a modern university in Thar that would provide standard education to the youth of Thar district where youth of other districts including Mirpurkhas, Badin and Umer Kot could also get opportunity of higher education.
Describing the difficulties faced by the youth of Thar, he said that they are very talented and have the potential to serve their country, however, it was not possible for every youth to go to Hyderabad or Karachi to get higher education due to lack of resources and increasing poverty.
"There are over 300,000 unemployed youths in Thar and are unable to continue their education as there was no education institution after intermediate in Thar.
Referring to the problem of drinking water in Thar, he said the government has already initiated the project for the establishment of 46 Reverse Osmosis Plants in Sindh. He said President Asif Ali Zardari has approved this project of potable water for Thar people on his initiative. Gul Muhammed said drinking water in Thar does not fulfil the requirement of drinking water standardised by WHO.
He said according to the WHO for drinking water was up to 600 TDS while the water available in Thar contains up to 8000 TDS, which was very dangerous for human being and causes various diseases, including fluorosis, hepatitis and kidney failure.
He said about one thousand teachers were required for the schools in Thar and that presently available schools do not fulfil the needs of primary education of Thar. There must be more schools and more teachers. The senator also demanded the Sindh government to carry out revenue survey in the two tehsils namely Deplo and Mithi.
