Power shortfall fell significantly against corresponding period due to improved electricity generation through Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and timely ending of the canal desilting campaign in the country. Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) sources said an addition of electricity in the system has improved the situation impressively.
They said 1754MW electricity has been injected in the system in last two years, while 1150MW would be added by June 2011. Meanwhile, a number of medium and long-term power generation projects have been initiated to meet the growing demand of energy in the country. They added that the Mangla dam raising project has been completed, while Rs 6 billion compensation have been given for the affected people to the AJK government.
The power generation during last 24 hours remained 11085MW against a demand of 12440MW, accumulating a gap of 1355MW. Power generation through hydel was 3803MW, followed by 1888MW through thermal, 5332MW through IPPs and 62MW through RPPs. Meanwhile, supply to the KESC was 690 MW.
