Getting rid of energy crisis: government urged to undertake measures

Senators belonging to various parties on Thursday called upon the government to undertake measures to get rid of the energy crisis by adopting alternate energy resources and also initiating talks with the US for getting civilian nuclear energy.
The senators were speaking while taking part of the House debate on an adjournment motion regarding un-scheduled load-shedding, excessive billing and increasing power tariffs. Pakistan Muslim League-Q Senator Haroon Akhtar was of the view that line losses of electricity of Pakistan was two-fold than the international standard, which is largely adding to the power shortfall.
Professor Khurshid Ahmed, MQM's Senator Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Abdur Rahim Mandokhel, Abdul Haseeb Khan and Dr Abdul Khaliq Pirzada while taking part in the debate suggested the all the non-development expenditures should be diverted towards energy projects.
